The Museum is situated in Station Street, Alexandra and is open on the second Sunday of each month and runs steam, petrol and diesel locomotives on a 600 metre loop. Refreshments are available, sausage sizzle lunch, or undercover barbecues are also available. For enquiries phone 0427 509 988.

Historic Alexandra is located in the foothills of the Great Dividing Range 130 kilometres north east of Melbourne. It houses Murrindindi’s civic centre and is a town rich in parklands.The first white men to see Alexandra were Hume and Novell in 1824. Gold mining and the heavily timbered fertile soils surrounding the Upper Goulburn River provided the initial attraction for settlers.

Murrindindi has dozens of waterfalls scattered right throughout the shire.
Walkers can enjoy the panoramic views, fern filled gullies and magnificent eucalypt forests. There are a range of walks, to suit those seeking a scenic view or those seeking day-long walks.
The forests in Murrindindi support a variety of native fauna species. These include swamp wallabies, wombats, antechinus, and several species of possum including the Leadbeaters possum, one of Victoria’s faunal emblems.
